Surprisingly, after all that Hester has been through with being an exiled member of society, deemed devilish, and truly looked down upon, she becomes the towns "prophettes" in her old age. Women from all over come to see her to seek advice on their love life issues. I found this very interesting because people could not even trust Hester with many things, especially with raising a child. People believed Hester would raise the devil. Now that people are seeking her advice, do they no longer believe she could be plotting devilish ideals in the heads of these women. Over time and with Dimmesdale's confession of his "A", people began to trust Hester. I believe that the towns people finally realized that all people sin. Everyone is a sinner in his or her own way, even the most holiest of them all. It took a long time for people to understand that one persons sin is not the entire towns downfall. Hesters unfaithful act did not need to effect the entire community negatively, on the contrary, people could take it as a lesson and learn from Hester after all she has been through. When Dimmesdale and Hester finally find peace within one another is when Pearl gives herself permission to stop manipulating the people around her and the natural beauty around her. She finally stops being obnoxious and uneasy, she becomes soft and for a moment she stays quiet at the sides of her mother and father. She even does the one thing she had never done in her life, which was kiss another person meaningfully and truly. In Dimmesdale dying moment she becomes true to herself and allows the forces around her to not act as a devilish or foolish child. Pearl grows to be a married woman of statute, who even cares and loves her mother wholly.
The turn around at this book only happens because of Dimmesdale's bravery to reveal his hidden "A" all along. The letter that burned his chest each and every moment was revealed to keep Pearl and Hester safe from what would come when he leaves the world. When he reveals his true identity, that is when people become accepting and Hester feels safe and peaceful. Knowing she will one day reunite with Dimmesdale keeps her calm and open to her future. This is why she becomes the prophettes(pg 135). She was left alone for so long, without being able to give any rebuttle. Times now, when women come to her for guidance, is when she realizes that the "A" helped not hindered herself as a person, and allowed her to do to the same for other women in her position. She becomes the new holy and "held high on a pedestal" type person, as Dimmesdale once had been.
